Pear and cherries grower

Cees Sturkenboom

Pruning shears provide background noise during our chat with Cees. His father started here in the early 1950s. At first, he grew all kinds of fruit. As pears proved to be the most successful product, he focused completely on pear cultivation. Cees first worked at Proeftuin Randwijk, helping to set up the business there. Meanwhile, he bought some land for himself and began supporting his father at the business in 2015. He added half a hectare of cherry trees and today operates fruit nursery Sturkenboom independently.

It is hard work throughout the year, and he strives to supply the best quality possible. “The following challenge is to successfully market and sell the high quality product." Cees enjoys the variety in his work as a fruit grower, and he loves to be outdoors in nature. “'Being outside allows me to witness the whole development cycle of the trees, from bud to pear." Cees is passionate about innovation in his work. He is technically minded and likes to apply technology to his cultivation methods. This area allows plenty of opportunity to further develop his business.
